The Mott's Boycott
After reading this post by the University Lutheran Church in Berkeley, California and this post by the RWDSU (Retail, Wholesale and Departmental Store Union), it has come to my attention that there is a big labor dispute going on in New York against Mott's (you know, apple juice, Hawaiian Punch). Even though the company had record sales last year, they are attempting to cut wages by as much as $1.50 and reducing 401k contributions by 20%. They are also trying to decrease health coverage and increase co-pays. The company is financially stable and does not have any financial issue that would require this type of measure (other than to increase profits by adding to the $550 million they got last year).
ULC is encouraging prayer groups to pray for a successful resolution to this conflict and to support workers, a boycott of Mott's products. See their post (linked above) for even more things you can do.
What do you think? Is this corporate greed or basic American capitalism at its finest?
